Tiefenpsychologisch fundierte Psychotherapie -

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Developed from psychoanalysis, psychodynamic therapy focuses on the inner world and life history of patients. Through play with children and conversation with adolescents and adults, therapy helps identify the underlying issues that shape our experiences—the conflicts we face, the emotions that influence our actions, and the desires and needs that drive us.

Symptoms such as anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, or compulsions are understood as attempts to cope with inner conflicts—often unconscious tensions that we are not fully aware of. Recognizing, naming, and regulating our feelings—especially in relation to others—is central to our mental health and well-being.

Psychodynamic therapists work to bring these inner processes into conscious awareness. By understanding and integrating these experiences, patients can develop healthier ways of dealing with them. This process can lead to a reduction or even complete resolution of symptoms.

Therapy Process

First, we arrange an initial consultation so that we can get to know each other and determine your therapy needs. If you decide to undergo therapy with me, you clarify the coverage or reimbursement of costs with your private or statutory health insurance provider. We then begin with what is known as probationary therapy, which lasts four to six hours. This involves carrying out a diagnosis. Depending on your needs and symptoms, short-term or long-term therapy then begins.

The therapy takes place once or twice a week. In the case of children, parents or other important caregivers are also involved in the therapy. Young people are allowed to decide for themselves.

When Therapy can be helpful:

  • Depression and withdrawal behaviour
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Adjustment disorder
  • Traumatic experiences
  • Mental health issues following separation and divorce
  • Sleep disorders
  • Pain and physical complaints without organic findings (somatoform disorders)
  • Aggressive oppositional behaviour, social behaviour disorders, relationship disorders
  • Eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia)
  • Self-harm (cutting)
  • Suicidal behaviour (suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts)
  • Attachment disorders
  • Autism (developmental disorder)
  • Mental disability with behavioural problems
  • Mutism (persistent inability to speak in certain situations, e.g. school)
  • Bedwetting (enuresis) and soiling (encopresis)
  • Separation anxiety, anxiety and phobia
  • Attention problems (ADHD, ADD)
  • Addictive behaviour (drugs, media, computer games)
  • Personality disorders
  • Psychological stress associated with transidentity
  • School anxiety, truancy and bullying

Costs

Private Health Insurance and Beihilfe

If you have private health insurance or Beihilfe, your health insurance provider will usually cover the costs. Ask your health insurance provider about the conditions and necessary steps for applying for psychotherapy.

Statutory Health Insurance

If you have statutory health insurance, you can start treatment with me via the so-called cost reimbursement procedure (Kostenerstattungsverfahren). To do so, you must prove to your insurance company that you are currently unable to find another therapy place within a reasonable time and distance. Each health insurance company has different conditions and, unfortunately, different hurdles. Please check with your insurance company in advance so that you do not have to bear the costs of the initial consultation yourself.

Psychotherapy according to the Child and Youth Welfare Act  -

Funding by the Youth Welfare Office (Jugendamt)

Psychotherapy can be applied for as educational assistance in the context of educational services in accordance with § 27 of the Child and Youth Welfare Act – KJHG (SGB VIII) or within the framework of integration assistance in accordance with § 35 a of the Child and Youth Welfare Act – KJHG (SGB VIII) at the youth welfare office. In justified cases, young adults over the age of 18 can also take advantage of this form of assistance in accordance with Section 41 of the Child and Youth Welfare Act (KJHG) (SGB VIII). In order to determine the need for therapy, a specialist service of the Youth Welfare Office in your district must be contacted before therapy is initiated. The points of contact are the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Service (KJPD), the School Psychological Service or the Education and Family Counselling Centre (EFB). If the need for therapy is determined by one of these specialist services, the costs are usually covered by the Youth Welfare Office.

Self-payers

If you cover the costs of treatment yourself, this has its advantages: we can begin treatment immediately without having to submit an application or wait, and the information about the therapy will not be stored in your health insurance records. The costs are based on the fee schedule for psychotherapists (GOP).
